Abstract: The project Action Oriented research and Activities to Support Implementation of Access and Benefit Sharing Policies and Laws in Peru: Confronting Misuse and Misappropriation of Seeds, Genetic Resources and Traditional Knowledge has sought to provide a series of national (and foreign) stakeholders with tools and instruments to address, understand and prevent misappropriation and illegal access to genetic resources and traditional knowledge. This is being achieved through research, building the management and response capacities of national institutions, sharing of experiences among key actors and interaction with key stakeholders. To date, the project has succeeded in integrating the efforts of national pubic and private institutions (including NGO´s, indigenous people organizations, research institutions, etc.) in confronting this phenomenon. Furthermore, results of the project can be measured, for example in the dropping and abandonment of a series of international patents requested and granted over Peruvian genetic resources through direct action of the National Commission for the Prevention on Biopiracy. Or the continued building of strengths of the National Commission through capacity building of its members and continuity of its work. Or through additional actions by the Commission and presence in the media. Or through impacts of research undertaken as part of the project in national, regional and international processes, which will be specified later in this report.
