Abstract: Urbanization intensified by mining has been affecting Gobi in the last decade. Mining provides job and market opportunities, along with dramatic distractive impacts on nature. Because of harmful activities of some mines there is increased public awareness and conflicts even with shooting. This Project conducted research, created and introduced to the local residents of rural county in the South Gobi – Nomgon, a dynamic web portal “My Homeland”, which is the first prototype of a system for information sharing of the main actors - local government, herders and mining company towards finding solutions for problems, and prevention of conflicts, particularly on the use of land and its resources. Capacity building trainings were conducted. System ownership and institutionalization at local level were identified with secondary school, steering committee and NGO of Nomgon county. The system was developed on LINUX platform with free open source tools and use of object oriented approach, UML modeling. Internet connection was established via Wireless broadband Gateway, and web, database, file and open fire servers were installed on Ubuntu 9.04 platform. The Project has introduced to rural residents and demonstrated how technology can be used for communication, information sharing and facilitation of collaboratively managed grievance mechanism.
