Consultation workshop with national research councils and universities in Southeast Asia : final technical report (September 16, 2010 to March 31, 2011)

Abstract

The overall objective of the workshop was to bring together representatives from NRCs and universities, as well as gender specialists, to consult, discuss, share ideas and/or validate the potential components of a proposed project for the next phase of iBoP Asia focusing on innovations for inclusive development. Twenty-six participants attended the one-day consultation workshop held last October 2010. The workshop was able to generate the following potential key outcomes for the proposed project: (1) address the systems issues of NRCs in four countries (Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia) towards socially inclusive innovations, and align research initiatives with ASEAN 2015; (2) develop communities of practice through a pool of innovation for development champions in universities; and, (3) advance social and economic development of women and men at the BoP through women’s participation in and access to successful innovations.
