Abstract: Governments in avian influenza (AI) affected Asian countries have put a lot of effort into controlling the spread of the disease through a variety of measures, such as culling, movement control, vaccination, etc. However, the control measures may have a larger socio-economic impact on backyard and small producers than the disease itself. A full scale survey towards understanding and improving control strategies was conducted in three provinces of Vietnam: Long An, Nam Dinh and Quang Ninh, which are representatives of high, medium and low AI incidence areas respectively. This report reviews research procedures undertaken in Vietnam.
