http://idl-bnc.idrc.ca:80/dspace/handle/10625/36184 Thu, 23 May 2013 12:16:17 GMT 2013-05-23T12:16:17Z http://idl-bnc.idrc.ca:80/dspace/handle/10625/50962 Title: Building a Community ICT Network in Mozambique : final technical report, 1 April 2006 - 30 November 2009 Authors: Gaster, Polly Abstract: The project was designed with the goal of contributing towards the expansion, consolidation and sustainability of community-level ICT initiatives in Mozambique – community radios, community multimedia centres (CMCs), telecentres and similar - specifically through strengthening the national network by means of services provided by a helpdesk integrated into a Community Information and Communication Support Centre (CAICC). Over the project period CAICC developed a range of activities based on the helpdesk: communication networks including a website and blog, helpdesk online and via Green Line and e-mail discussion list; formal and on-the-job training and advice; staff exchanges; and information and training products disseminated online and offline. At national level CAICC operated in coordination with key actors in the field of community ICTs, and at international level it participated in African and global networks and the Telecentre Academy initiative, sharing results and experiences. An evaluation study carried out in the first half of 2009 confirmed that CAICC is fulfilling its objectives and providing services that are recognised and valued by local partners around the country. The inclusive national network has been strengthened, and decentralised mutual aid networks are gathering force. CAICC will continue to operate post-project, but although funding for some new activities is guaranteed funds are still being sought to support the key helpdesk functions.
