Authors: Amarzaya, Amartuvshin; Munkhtsetseg, Namsraidorj; Otgonnaran, Ochirbat; Tserenbat, Oidov
Abstract: In this paper we will present an evaluation method of how contents of curricula of a certain university suit with curricula models of ACM-IEEE using Porter’s method. We will explore a measurement methodology proposed by A. C. Porter for the case IT and Software Engineering curricula of three Mongolian leading schools.

Title: Curriculum development of university computing and ICT education in Mongolia : final technical report, January 2009 – January 2011
Authors: Amarzaya, Amartuvshin
Abstract: In this technical report we present achievements and findings of our research project. The overall goal of the project was to develop new models of universities compulsory and specialized ICT and computing curricula was achieved successfully.
To establish design and development of new curricula models first we conducted a current curriculum analysis for universities compulsory, software engineering and IT curricula.
Permeation of experiential learning (or "learning by doing") was the fundamental idea for compulsory ICT curricula model the compulsory ICT training. There are, of course, different ways of providing experiential learning, including but not limited to instructor demonstrations, relevant field trips, individual and group projects, interviews with professionals, design, implementation, and documentation projects, preparation documents, sheets, web pages and multimedia presentation, and service learning. Each module is specified accordingly.
Relevant curricula recommendation from ACM-IEEE and experiences universities from Singapore, Korea and China was starting points for specialized software engineering and IT curriculum models.

How iREACH has contributed to local communities

Title: How iREACH has contributed to local communities
Authors: Grunfeld, Helena; Hak, Sokleap; Pin, Tara
Abstract: The research on iREACH presented in this paper is the first wave of a longitudinal study, aimed at testing a framework for evaluating how information and communication technologies can contribute to capabilities, empowerment and sustainability. The framework is informed by Amartya Sen’s capability approach (CA), uses a participatory methodology, considers the micro-, meso-, and macro- levels in understanding the role of ICT in development, and adopts a forward-looking longitudinal perspective. Key findings of this research are that iREACH has contributed to livelihoods and other aspects of well-being in diverse ways, primarily in education, health, and farming. Participants also valued iREACH because of its contribution to empowerment, particularly gender empowerment. This intrinsic value of iREACH also manifested itself in a general appreciation of just being part of the world and knowing what goes on in other parts of Cambodia and beyond. These findings are consistent with the CA’s emphasis on development as being about more than economic growth. They also support the importance of considering external factors, conceptualised here as the meso- and macro-levels.
